The Friends of the Broward County Library held their 4th annual luncheon on Thursday, June 5th at Diamante's Banquet Center. The luncheon, attended this year by 250 people, presented Pioneer Awards to those people who contributed so positively to the growth and development of the library system in Broward County. Honored were Cecil Beach, Ruth Byrd, Barbara Cooper, Joyce T. Gardner, Robert R. Kauth, Mary Rosen Lawson, Samuel Morrison, Frederick G. Ruffner and Eugenie Suter.

Awards were also presented to the various Friends groups in recognition of their contributions to their branch library. The Friends of the Fort Lauderdale Libraries received awards for: Advocacy Efforts in the Community, Support of a Systemwide Event, and Support of Staff Training and Development.

A highlight of the event was the basket raffle. The theme this year was “Here's Looking at You” and the baskets were designed to reflect movies such as Around the World in Eighty Days and Like Water, Like Chocolate. Our basket represented Breakfast at Tiffanys.
