The library receives its support from state funding and a significant portion from local property taxes. Each year the governing authorities implement a budgeting process that determines the amount of money to be allocated to libraries. Friends are needed during those times to voice the community's need for adequate funding to provide well-stocked, well-staffed libraries.
Friends are needed to actively advocate for the library by communicating the need to the proper authorities and letting them know how much our public library resources and services are valued.
Friends represent the interests of library users to the legislators who make funding decisions. They actively participate by visiting their legislators, writing, emailing or speaking at public meetings. They also provide a public voice within the community, encouraging its members to take full advantage of the many resources, services and programs being provided.
